Sun TV to telecast Ireland cricket series live

Our Bureau

Coimbatore June 14 Sun TV network has signed a deal with Nimbus Communications Ltd to telecast live the one-day international cricket matches to be held in Ireland from June 23 to July 3. Apart from India, Pakistan, South Africa and Ireland are also competing in the ODIs.

The matches would be telecast live in two other Sun TV Group regional language channels — Gemini TV in Telugu and Udaya Varthegalu in Kannada. Sun TV's decision to forge a tie-up with Nimbus Communication is not restricted to the Ireland series but would cover any cricket series up to 2010 for which Nimbus has won the rights to telecast.

In a notification to the NSE today, the Sun TV network had said that it had signed an exclusive Cable & Satellite channels agreement with Nimbus Communications to broadcast live feed of the ODI matches of the Ireland series.

The network said that the same would be telecast on Sun News with Tamil commentary, Gemini News with Telugu commentary and Udaya Varthegalu with Kannada commentary. Sun TV said that this was a "long-term agreement with Nimbus with respect to any cricket series over cricket seasons 2007-2008 to 2009-2010 in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam for which Nimbus has the rights".
