Announcements Marketing - New Products & Services States - Gujarat Hero Cycles launches electric 2-wheelers in Gujarat Our Bureau
Ahmedabad June 14 Hero Cycles Ltd, in collaboration with Ultra Motor Company (UMC), a UK-based electric vehicle solution provider, today launched its new range of electric two-wheelers in western India, here. These vehicles will have seven variants of e-bikes and e-scooters, branded as "Hero Electric", with the "Ultra Powered" technology tag, and priced between Rs 14,300 and Rs 28,000, said Mr Vijay Munjal, Managing Director, Hero Exports, at a news conference here.
Dealer network
The company is aiming to expand the dealer network in all major centres until March 2008. After the first launch in Punjab, in March this year, the company has moved to Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh and has, in the second phase of marketing, now entered Gujarat in the west, Mr Munjal said. Hero Cycles had, in September 2006, signed a technical collaboration-cum-joint marketing agreement with Ultra Motor to produce this new range of low-speed electric two-wheelers in India. These two-wheelers run at one-tenth of the running cost of conventional petrol-driven two-wheelers with a maintenance cost of one-third of a normal two-wheeler. Depending on the version, a single charge can last between 45 and 70 km, with the price, for charging the battery, being 10 paisa per km, he claimed.
