Alliances & Joint Ventures States - Karnataka GE Healthcare, HCG tie up for imaging unit Our Bureau
Bangalore June 14 Cancer hospitals chain HealthCare Global Enterprises (HCG) and global diagnostics leader GE Healthcare have announced a strategic oncology partnership in India. HCG has set up in Bangalore an advanced molecular imaging centre equipped with GE Healthcare's molecular imaging systems, the two companies said. They added that India has three million cancer patients undergoing treatment at an estimated cost of around Rs 4,800 crore. The equipment would help early detection and treatment of cancer, heart disease, and neurological disorders like Alzheimer's even before clear symptoms start showing. Molecular imaging combines biology, medicine, pharmaceuticals, physics, chemistry and engineering to detect, treat and monitor disease at the cellular levels. Mr V. Raja, President and CEO of GE Healthcare, said: "Molecular imaging has huge potential to enable detection of diseases at a much earlier stage and change the way we manage the patient today." Dr Ajai Kumar, HCG Chairman, said that the group plans to set up similar centres across the country.
