KBL targets Rs 500-cr agri credit

Karnataka Bank Ltd (KBL) has proposed to disburse Rs 500 crore fresh credit under agriculture during 2007-08. A bank release said here on Thursday that this was finalised at the `Agri Business Conference 2007' in Mangalore recently.

Finalising this target, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the bank, Mr Anantakrishna, called upon all branches to encourage contract farming and lay thrust on micro-finance. The bank disbursed Rs 822.47 crore to agriculture sector during 2006-07 as against Rs 788.44 crore in the previous fiscal.

Mr G.K. Bhat, General Manager (Credit), requested the branches to popularise the bank's agricultural schemes through effective marketing so that the benefit of schemes reach the needy farmers.
