`Managing HR change vital for creating successful cos'

Our Bureau

Bangalore June 15 The stability of routine and predictability is a thing of the past. Change is a part of the new business environment. Panellists speaking at a discussion on `Managing change from the human capital perspective,' agreed that to create successful companies, change in people's mindset is inevitable. "Leaders have to anticipate, adapt and embrace change to keep one step ahead of competition," said Mr Nandan Nilekani, CEO, Infosys.

"This is possible if you develop the ability to be a learning person all your life." Corporates now look for versatalists: a mix of specialists and generalists, people who will move with the change.

Mr Pranesh Anthapur, COO, R&D, Yahoo India, said that the only way to bring about change is by making employees partners in change and not by thrusting it on them.

Tesco's experience in managing change happened when the company decided to offshore jobs to India, said Mr Sudeesh Venkatesh, Head, HR, Tesco.

"Change will add value not only when hard decisions are taken, but also how they are taken.'
