GBN enters regional news space

Our Bureau

New Delhi, June 15

With the launch of a Marathi news channel, Global Broadcast News is likely to further explore the regional news space. "We are looking at other regions, and may probably launch Punjabi and Gujarati language channels soon. However, the nature of the operations will be determined by the demographics of the region," said Mr Sameer Manchanda, Joint MD of the company that owns the CNN-IBN channel.

The company will be funding these ventures from the $200 million it plans to raise overseas. A bulk of the funds will however be used for the general entertainment channel it is launching in association with international media conglomerate Viacom. The channel is expected to be on air in about eight months' time, according to a press release.
