Cotton States - Andhra Pradesh AP issues ordinance to curb spurious seeds supply Our Bureau
Hyderabad June 15 A day after Mr N. Raghuveera Reddy, Minister for Agriculture, announcing plans to introduce a legislation to control cottonseed activity, the Andhra Pradesh Government has issued an Ordinance to curtail supply of spurious and inferior seeds. The AP Cottonseeds (Regulation of Supply, Distribution and Fixation of sale price) 2007 comprises clauses to award serious punishments to the offenders.
Ensuring fair price
The Ordinance calls for constitution and appointment of a Controller at the State-level to oversee and evolve a regulatory system to ensure quality and fair price. It also prescribes norms to evolve adequate mechanism to pay compensation to farmer in the event of supply of inferior quality of seeds that leads to serious losses. The Ordinance makes it mandatory registration of all types of cottonseed, produced in the State or imported.
