BHEL top brass meet TN officials

Chennai June 15 Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd's top officials and the Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries today met the Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary, Mr L K Tripathy and senior officials of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB), to impress upon the state officials the need to shift from 500 MW power plants to the more efficient 800 MW supercritical.

The Chairman and Managing Director of BHEL, Mr A.K. Puri and the Director (Power), Mr K Ravikumar, told TNEB that following the Central Electricity Authority recommendation, BHEL has entered into technological tie-ups with companies to manufacture thermal power sets of capacity of 800 MW to 1,000MWe each with super critical parameters.

These sets are expected to increases the pace of thermal power capacity addition in the country and achieve 11th / 12th Five-Year Plan targets. At present, most sets available are 500 MW ones, according to a press release.
