Customs, excise duty revenue up in April-May

New Delhi June 15 The first two months of the current fiscal has seen robust increase in the customs and excise duty collections of the Central Government.

Provisional data available with the Finance Ministry show customs duty collections during April-May 2007 at Rs 15,619 crore. This represents a 23.78 per cent growth over the customs duty revenues of Rs 12,618 crore recorded in the same period last year.

On the other hand, excise duty collections grew 6.34 per cent in April-May 2007 to Rs 15,848 crore as compared to Rs 14,903 crore in April-May last year.

In May 2007, the customs duty revenues of the Central Government stood at Rs 8,398 crore, representing a 20.82 per cent growth over revenues of Rs 6,951 crore achieved in the same month last year.

The customs duty collections in May 2007 are substantially higher than the collection level of Rs 7,221 crore recorded in April 2006.
