Make natural gas 'declared good'

Pressure is mounting on the VAT Panel and the Union Government to provide `declared good' status to natural gas under the Central Sales Tax law.

A declared good status would force states to peg the sales tax rate on natural gas at not more than three per cent. Currently, the sales tax rates vary across states and some of them charge even 20 per cent, according to industry chamber FICCI.
