Balmer Lawrie to pay 135% dividend

The board of directors of the public sector Balmer Lawrie & Co Ltd has declared a record dividend of 135 per cent for the year ended March 31, 2007 on 50 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 70.22 crore (Rs 46.8 crore in 2005-06) during the year. In 2006-07, the profit before tax at Rs 106.16 crore (Rs 80.85 crore) showed a jump of 31.3 per cent and the turnover at Rs 1,300 crore (Rs 1,252 crore), an increase of 3.8 per cent. This was the highest ever profit earned by the company in its 140 years of existence, according to a press release. The company hopes to achieve a turnover of Rs 2,000 crore and a profit before tax of Rs 200 crore by 2010.
