Hyderabad, June 16

An Indian Institute of Management (IIM) would be set up in Andhra Pradesh in the current plan period, according to the Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Mr Arjun Singh. Mr Singh made this announcement in response to a request for sanctioning an IIM for Andhra Pradesh made by the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, at the inaugural function of south central regional council of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) here on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister said there was a need for decentralisation of decision-making at AICTE in deference to the needs and aspirations of the people in different regions. He had also asked the AICTE officials "not to work as ambassadors of New Delhi but function as facilitators."
