Letters Theatre of the absurd
The drama in which leading politicians play comical roles in connection with the election of the President has reached the zenith of absurdity. Ridiculous statements are made, sometimes by the Presidential nominees and at others by those who oppose the nominations. It is best that political parties conduct themselves with dignity and act in such a way as not to make a mockery of the Presidential election. The oft-repeated argument for consensus appears to be hypocritical and serves no purpose. Why should there be a consensus and in what way it will help the functioning of the President? The President is supposed to be above politics and there are umpteen great people who can fill the post with ease, consensus or not. V. S.
