AP Govt fiat to PCB on greenery rules

Our Bureau

Hyderabad June 19 The Andhra Pradesh Government has directed the Pollution Control Board not to give the final clearances to industries that fail to comply with the rules related to greenery.

At a review meeting here on Monday, the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said that the industries were expected to keep at least one-fourth of the area under green cover.

"This should be strictly adhered to," he pointed put.

As a result, the 10,000-odd companies, small and big, in the State would have to comply with the green norms.

MEET TOMORROW

To ensure this, the Chief Minister called for a meeting of all the departments concerned ahead of the proposed videoconference on June 21.

When referred to the problems being faced by the small industries on this count, the Chief Minister asked the Forest Department to help them out.

He suggested the bigger companies could adopt the villages nearby to enhance the green cover in that area.

The Social Forestry Department had set a target of planting 30 crore saplings this season.
