Announcements Ford mulls launch of Fusion diesel variant Our Bureau
New Delhi June 20 Ford India on Wednesday said that it would launch a diesel variant of Ford Fusion. "Seventy per cent of our sales of Ford Fiesta, our largest selling model, is in the diesel category," said Mr Arvind Mathew, President and Managing Director, at the launch of the new version of the Ford Endeavour. "We plan to launch the diesel version of the Fusion by the third quarter to broaden our product portfolio in this segment." Despite the hardening of interest rates and a dip in sales in April and May, Ford India continues to maintain its projection of eight per cent growth year-on-year, Mr Mathew said.
Growth projection
He added that he would consider the option of revaluating its growth projection based on sales figures in June and July. Ford India witnessed a dip in sales to 5,660 units in April-May compared to 5,954 units in the same period last year. The Endeavour, which was launched in 2003, has recorded sales of about 7,000 units and enjoys 38 per cent market share in the premium SUVs segment. The new vehicle has 30 per cent localisation content and the company is evaluating options to make it more competitive. "The new Endeavour offers 28 per cent more power and 22 per cent torque over the previous model," said Mr Mathew. Priced at Rs 14.72 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the 4x2 wheel drive variant and Rs 15.62 lakh for 4x4 wheel drive variant, the new version of the model consists of 2.5-litre turbo diesel common rail injection engine.
