Centre urged to establish Price Stabilisation Fund

The State Government is planning to introduce classification of Ayurveda resorts in view of the immense potential the State has in the area of health tourism.

Thiruvananthapuram June 20 The State Government is planning to enact a legislation to check the entry of multinationals into agricultural commodities market.

The Minister for Agriculture, Mr Mullakara Ratnakaran, said in the State Assembly on Tuesday that the Government was of the view that unrestricted entry of multinationals for procurement and sale of farm products was not in the interest of the State.

The proposed legislation would prevent fall in the prices of agricultural products caused by the market operations of the multinationals.

The Minister, replying to questions, said that the State Government had been demanding with the Centre for the establishment of a Price Stabilisation Fund to save the farmers from the impact of price fluctuations.

He said the State had pressed the Centre to include Alappuzha and Idukki districts in the Vidharbha Model Package for rejuvenating the agricultural sector. Wayanad, Kasargod and Palakkad districts had already been included in the package, he said.
