Kolkata June 21 Ratnagiri Gas Power Pvt Ltd (RGPPL) expects to run two gas-based units of 740 MW each in full capacity by August. The company has three units of 740 MW each. The company's Chairman, Mr Chandan Roy, told Business Line that GAIL had promised completion of its Dahej-Uran-Dabhol pipeline by June 30. GAIL is a major stakeholder (along with NTPC) in RGPPL. "Petronet LNG Ltd has already promised us an immediate supply of roughly 8 million standard cubic metre a day (mmscmd) beginning July. Though the generation will begin in two units once the gas supply commences, we may need six weeks to stabilise the generation," Mr Roy said. RGPPL was so far generating power from one unit using naphtha. According to Mr Roy, the company has already revived one unit (block-2) having two turbines for using gas as feedstock. Revival of the other unit (block-3) is nearing completion. "Though we will start using gas as soon as it arrives, the units may take six weeks to stabilise generation," he said. Meanwhile, the GAIL Chairman and Managing Director, Mr U.B. Choubey, confirmed timely completion of the Dahej-Uran-Dabhol pipeline. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr Choubey said, "the pipeline will be operational in this month and would initially carry 8 mmscmd of gas for power generation from two units of RGPPL". The company is expecting the third unit of RGPPL to be operational by November-December. Dabhol LNG terminal may also be partly operational during this period. Meanwhile, GAIL had forged an alliance with Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) for gas distribution in West Bengal. Stating that the new JV would be incorporated shortly, Mr Choubey said that the estimated investment in the project would be around Rs 500 crore.
