The Singapore-based Global Indian Foundation (GIF), which signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat Government here on Thursday announced to set up two world-class schools in the tribal districts of the State.
The first such residential school, to be set up at Vejalpur in the Panchmahals district, known as Mahatma Gandhi Eklavya School, will be managed by the elite Navrachana International School, Vadodara. Another school will come up at Tilakwada in Narmada district.
GIF, a non-profit foundation set up by NRIs, has established schools in the Asia-Pacific region at Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, New Zealand, Thailand and India, and plans to open more schools in Australia and the US, Mr Atul Temurnikar, Chairman, Global Indian International School (GIIS), told presspersons here today.
GIIS has over 17,000 students enrolled and 1,500 teachers in its six schools.
Mr Justice C.S. Dharmadhikari, retired judge of the Gujarat High Court and Vice-President and Trustee of GIF, said the school would make efforts to tap tribal talent to contribute to the national mainstream.
