AP Govt aims to create 1 m jobs in next 2 years

Our Bureau

Hyderabad June 21 The Andhra Pradesh Government has targeted to create one million jobs in the next two years. To begin with, it will create 25,000 new jobs in each district this year.

The Government has directed District Collectors to tap all avenues such as IKP (Indira Kranti Patham), DRDA (District Rural Development Agency) and Rajiv Yuva Shakti schemes to create the additional jobs.

Housing scheme

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, Minister for Information and Public Relations, said the officials had been directed to complete the 18 lakh houses planned in the first phase of Indiramma housing programme by September 30. Till now, over four lakh houses were completed. The survey for the second phase (2007-08) is on.

"The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, had asked the officials not to resort to jugglery of figures. To cross check with the figures given by the officials, the Government had simultaneously asked the Intelligence Department to conduct a survey," the Minister said.

Farmers' package

With a view to providing the farmers with additional income, the State Government has decided to supply milch animals to the farmers. "This year, we plan to help farmers buy 1.32 lakh high milk giving animals. We asked the officials to get these from states such as Gujarat and Haryana," he said.

During 2008-09, the number would be scaled up to 2.7 lakh. The farmers would get a subsidy of 50 per cent for acquiring the animals.

"Of the total 65 lakh milch animals in the State, only 11 lakh are high yielding. We need to bridge the gap," he said.

Beginning this month, the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary would talk to officials through videoconference to take stock of various developmental activities. While the Chief Minister would talk to officials and Ministers on every third Saturday, the Chief Secretary would do so on every third Tuesday.
