Stock Exchanges Our Bureau
Kolkata June 22 Senior officials of the BSE have recently visited the CSE, conducting preliminary talks with the newly formed `empowered committee' of the exchange. The larger bourse, it is pointed out, has expressed the view that it would like to enter as a strategic ally with the local exchange provided such a move makes business sense. In fact, the BSE will examine the idea of becoming a strategic partner of the RSEs (regional stock exchanges) if it is convinced about their viability. The CSE empowered committee, which met in mid-May, took note of the fact that a few entities, including banks, had expressed prima-facie interest in the issue. However, the general response to the invitation for the EOI (expression of interest) was considered insufficient at that point. It was recommended that the original process (that is, bringing on strategic investors) be amended. Instead, a process of `induction through negotiation' should be considered.
