But within its time, cost limits

Bangalore June 23 The Bangalore International Airport Ltd board, which met here on Friday, appears to have somewhat acquiesced to the Ministry of Civil Aviation's suggestions on its functional and design features.

Understandably, these will be done keeping in mind BIAL's priority- that of meeting its operational deadline of April 2, 2008, trial dateline of December 2007; any additional features would be taken up from the unused funds available with the company.

Neither the BIAL Chief Executive Officer, Mr Albert Brunner, nor board members were available for clarification after they met here till Friday evening.

A rather vaguely worded resolution of the meeting issued by BIAL said the management has been authorised to take suitable steps to comply with the recommendations of May 11 - keeping the additional cost burden and the time in mind.

The Ministry in its letter to BIAL has, among others, asked it to ensure against flooding as the airport venue is lower than the surrounding areas; objected to a "factory-like" plain look of the airport, and the lack of colours and shapes.

BIAL is racing ahead to complete the airport by this year-end for dry runs; it expects to start commercial flights from April 2 next year.
