Despite crude prices soaring to $71-72 levels, the Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Mr Murli Deora said that the Government had no immediate plans of increasing fuel prices. "It is very painful, but we will try and restrict the prices at the current levels," he said. While acknowledging that the Finance Ministry has helped by reducing excise and customs duties for crude and petroleum products, Mr Deora said that he would be approaching the Ministry once again for similar cuts if crude prices maintained their current levels.
