Plea to nationalise gas fields

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, June 24

The Consortium of Indian Farmers' Associations (CIFA) has asked the Union Government to go for nationalisation of all private natural gas fields. "This will enable the Government to prioritise the gas supply and fixation of price," Mr P. Chengal Reddy, Secretary-General of CIFA, said. Strongly objecting to the gas price suggested by Reliance, he said it would have serious implications on the country. "Pricing issue is just one issue. But controlling of a very critical raw material by a single company will have far reaching implications on farmers and other customers," he told Business Line. Monopoly and power of fixing prices would result in a lot of pressure on State Governments that are heavily dependent on gas to improve power situation.
