Our Bureau

Bangalore June 25 Micro Labs Ltd has launched its second ophthalmology division, Micro Lumira.

This will be the company's 13th division and will supplement the existing one, Micro Vision.

Micro Lumira's Head and President, Mr S. Rajagopalan, told Business Line that the new division would offer high-end ophthalmic products including those used during surgery, antibiotics and anti-allergics. Most of these would be from Micro Labs' eye drops facility at Bommasandra.

The domestic eye care market is said to be worth Rs 500 crore. A release quoted Mr Dilip Surana, MD of the Rs 860-crore Micro Labs, as saying, "Eye care market has vast, untapped potential. Micro Lumira will bring us closer to achieving our mission of becoming the No. 1 player in eye care market" by 2010. By the end of this year, Micro Labs, Karnataka's largest pharma company, expects to be in the No 3 slot in eye care market.

The revenue from the existing division was Rs 36 crore - which Micro Vision should double in the next 24 months; the contribution from the ophthalmic segment would increase from the present 5 per cent to 8-10 per cent by the end of this fiscal, Mr Rajagopalan said.
