Ship mishap: One more body recovered

All steps have been initiated to prevent any pollution from the sunken ship

Mangalore June 25 With the recovery of the body of one more sailor on Monday, the death toll in Saturday's mishap in which m.v. Denden sank off Mangalore coast went up to three.

The body of Tadessi Beriket of Eritrea was recovered on the shores of Tannirbavi beach on Monday.

Two more sailors died on Saturday when they jumped from the ship for shore. Of the 24 crew members, 21 were rescued.

Meanwhile, all steps have been initiated to prevent any pollution from the sunken ship.

The ship was carrying furnace slag to Dubai when it sank in the sea.

Sources in New Mangalore Port Trust told Business Line that the port, in association with the Coast Guard, has taken all precautionary measures to arrest the pollution along the shore.

"Oil boom and oil dispersants have been kept ready, in case of any emergency," they said.

The Eritrean Ambassador to India, Mr Gabriel Fassil, visited the city on Sunday, and interacted with the rescued sailors of m.v. Denden in Mangalore.

He left for Delhi on Monday.
