WTO talks

This refers to your editorial "No deal" (Business Line, June 25). With the failure of the G-4 talks in Potsdam, Germany, new ways must be found to take the WTO talks forward.

Whether the `single undertaking' condition can be diluted is worth considering. But India is concerned with the livelihood security of millions of its farmers. Unless the US and the developed countries recognise this and agree to reduce their subsidies, an agreement may still elude. So, whether the talks succeed or not, we have to take action to make our farm products competitive enough for agriculture to flourish and farmers prosper.
