Society & Development States - Maharashtra Thermax establishes social initiative foundation Our Bureau
Pune June 26 Thermax Ltd has established the Thermax Social Initiative Foundation and its first project is to partner the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for 30 years to offer education to bright students from underprivileged sections of society. The TSIF will help run the KC Thackeray Vidya Niketan English Medium School starting from Class III. The first batch of 180 students in classes III, IV and V has started the academic year this month. Education in the school will be progressively scaled up to Class X.
Train teachers
The Foundation will recruit and train teachers and also independently manage the functioning and administration of the school, where education is free for its students. The PMC has allocated renovated premises in Somwar Peth for the school and will provide free school uniforms, books and bus passes. "The Foundation came out of the desire to make Thermax corporate social responsibility happen in a planned and structured manner. Having gained experience through our support for Akanksha in its education efforts, we believed it was time to get involved directly," said the TSIF Chairperson, Ms Anu Aga. "We believe that good education is a great leveler and can help bridge the gap between the haves and the have-nots," she added. The not-for-profit Foundation has three founder directors Ms Anu Aga, Ms Meher Pudumjee and Mr Sudhir Sohoni. Its funds will come from the one per cent profit after tax that Thermax sets aside every year for its CSR activities.
