Foreign Trade States - Karnataka `Singapore keen to explore Karnataka's potential' Our Bureau
Mangalore June 26 Singapore is keen to explore the potential of Karnataka in various sectors, according to Mr Ajit Singh, Consul-General, Consulate-General of the Republic of Singapore, Chennai. Addressing members of the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) here on Tuesday evening, Mr Singh said that there are ample opportunities for exploring the potential in areas such as IT park development, township development and infrastructure development. While Singapore companies have taken up various such projects in Bangalore, there are also opportunities in tier-II cities such as Mangalore and Mysore. On Indian investments in Singapore, he said the number of Indian companies in Singapore was 1,100 in 2001. During 2006, the number reached 2,500, he said. The number of Indian tourists visiting Singapore went up by 12.9 per cent in 2006 over the previous year. He said that 6.59 lakh Indian tourists visited Singapore in 2006. Capt J.P. Menezes, KCCI President, gave an overall picture of the potential of Mangalore in various sectors.
