Net4India may foray into long-distance telephony

Thomas K Thomas

New Delhi June 26 Internet service provider Net4India is mulling entry into the long-distance telephony segment to offer voice and data services to corporates.

The company, which on Monday reported a 73 per cent increase in its revenues for the year ended Mach 31, 2007, will compete with the likes of BT, AT&T and Bharti Airtel if it takes the long-distance telephony licence from the Government.

"We are internally discussing it. The corporate long-distance market is nearly Rs 1,400 crore and even if we get a small share of that pie it would be good. But we haven't decided on whether to go ahead or not. Even without the long distance licence our business looks good," Mr Jasjit Sawhney, Managing Director and CEO, Net4India, told Business Line.

The company reported net profit of Rs 7.48 crore for the year ended March 31, 2007. Revenues went up 40 per cent to Rs 103 crore for the year.

earnings per share for the consolidated entity stood at Rs 4.61 per share, also 74 per cent higher as compared to last year's Rs 2.65 per share.
