RACING SOLUTIONS: Mr S Ramadorai, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Tata Consultancy Services, and Mr Antonio Calbrese, Chief Information Officer, Ferrari, at a function in Mumbai on Tuesday. Paul Noronha
Mumbai June 26 Tata Consultancy Services' three-year association with Ferrari could evolve further and perhaps lead to software development and some offshoring work as well, said Mr Antonio Calabrese, spokesperson for the Italian carmaker, at an informal meeting with media persons on Tuesday. The main considerations would be interactivity and speed of services because as far as Formula 1 cars are concerned, Ferrari deploys software enhancements almost on a weekly basis, he said. TCS has been providing IT services for Scuderia Ferrari since 2004. Engineers and specialists from the Indian software company have been helping Ferrari derive more business value from their design software for the Formula 1 racing car and the Ferrari sports car. TCS' inputs help to manage integration of Ferrari's software systems that make up the design and engineering core of its cars. TCS would work with the F1 team across the spectrum of services, from safety onwards, to provide IT-based solutions before, during and between races, said the Chief Executive Officer of TCS, Mr S. Ramadorai. He said TCS has a specialist team of 40 professionals in Italy working full time on the project. He said the auto and aerospace sectors constituted an important business for its engineering software vertical. The F1, said officials, has more in common with jet fighter than with the normal car.
