Trade & Labour Unions States - Tamil Nadu TN lorry owners asked not to ply to Karnataka
Our Bureau Coimbatore, June 27 The State Lorry Owners’ Federation – Tamil Nadu has asked the truck operators in Tamil Nadu not to operate their vehicles to Karnataka in view of the indefinite strike called by the lorry owners in that State from the midnight of June 30 to protest the fixing of speed governors ordered by the Karnataka Government. In a statement, Mr P. Sengodan, President, SLOF-T, Namakkal, said the Karnataka Government has decided to enforce fitting of speed governors in all Karnataka-registered transport vehicles with effect from July 1. This rule was also applicable to other State vehicles that ply to and through Karnataka. He pointed out that all lorries going to North India from Tamil Nadu had to pass through Karnataka and hence, the rule would affect most of the lorry owners in Tamil Nadu whose vehicles go through that State. Scheme run
He said the rule was introduced in Karnataka many years ago and was given up as it could not be implemented. He said though the scheme was meant to bring down accidents, only ‘corruption increased’ and the rate of accidents did not decline. Mr Sengodan said the lorry owners’ federation in Karnataka has called for an indefinite strike from the midnight of June 30, demanding withdrawal of the order. To extend support to this decision, he asked the truck operators in Tamil Nadu not to ply their vehicles to Karnataka till the agitation is called off.
