Airlines Speed check-in
Rubbing shoulders with the powerful definitely has its advantages, a colleague realised recently. Completing an assignment in the North-East, the poor scribe rushed to Guwahati airport early this week to catch a flight back home. At the check-in counter, he was curtly told that he was five minutes late in reporting and not only could he not get on board, his (valid) ticket too had lapsed and the he would need to buy a new one. His ineffective pleading for some consideratio n as he had no contacts in the city was going on when in walked two Central Ministers, both of them familiar to the distressed colleague. A small chat followed by an expression of their concern for him changed things dramatically as airport officials, the airline manager and others rushed in to ‘organise’ things. Not only was the colleague escorted to the aircraft, he travelled back in additional comfort as he was upgraded to Business Class.
