Coal continues as public utility

New Delhi, June 28

The coal industry has been declared a public utility service under the Industrial Disputes Act for another six months with effect from today. A Labour Ministry notification issued on Thursday said this has been done in public interest. The industry was earlier declared a public utility service for six months from December 28, 2006. Employees in the coal industry would be required to give notice six weeks in advance before proceeding on strike so that conciliatory proceedin gs could be started. – Our Bureau
