Petroleum Crude oil, natural gas output dips in May
Our Bureau New Delhi, June 28 While crude oil production saw a marginal dip in May, natural gas production fell 3.8 per cent to 2.638 billion cubic metres. Crude oil production in May dipped 1.6 per cent, as companies like ONGC pumped 2.81 million tonnes (mt) of crude oil compared with 2.86 mt in the same month last year. However, the production in May was about one per cent higher than April this year (2.79 mt). According to the Petroleum Ministry, crude output fell due to processing problems at ONGC’s de-salter plant in Nawagam, Gujarat, and flooding in Assam. Gas output was lower as Oil India Ltd saw lower gas off take in Assam and on production delay from offshore Andhra Pradesh by ONGC, the ministry said. Oil production
Output from the ONGC’s Mumbai High fields fell 0.5 per cent to 1.51 mt in May. Crude oil production by non-state-owned explorers such as Cairn Energy Plc climbed 15 per cent to 4,37,000 tonnes in May, according to the official data. As most plants produced above targets to gain from higher margins overseas, oil refiners raised their processing by 14.9 per cent in May against a year earlier. Refineries processed 13.33 mt crude oil in May from 11.59 mt refined in the year earlier period. Refining in May was up 7.8 per cent from the month’s target of 12.37 mt and refinery production was 6.5 per cent higher from the previous month due to a rise in overall capacity utilisation of the refineries.
