Global meet on space travel in Hyderabad

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, June 28 Is it possible to fly to Australia and return on a single day? Can scientists set up solar power stations in space to harness the perennial energy from the Sun? How can nations come together to realise space transportation?

Space and defence scientists from across the world will gather in Hyderabad today for a two-day meet to discuss such questions and try to find workable technological strategies for space transportation and very high speed travel. President Mr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will inaugurate and address the gathering.

Hypersonic vehicles with potential to fly 5-8 Mach speeds (Mach is the speed of sound) can help people travel from, say, India to Australia and back in a single day. Countries like the US, France, Russia, Japan, Australia and so on are working on technologies to make this possible.
