Innovate, industry told

Hyderabad, June 29 Indian industry should focus more on innovation to achieve global competitiveness, according to the President, Mr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

Speaking after inaugurating the R&D and manufacturing facility of Relisys Medical Devices Ltd here on Friday, Mr Kalam said as per the latest Global Competitive Index, India was in the 43rd position. Women education would play a vital role in promoting innovation, he felt.

The potential in medical devices including stets was huge and in stent and other medical devices, India should number one, he added.

Dr N. Krishna Reddy, Chairman, Relisys, said the company was working on polymer-based stents which were being clinically tested in 15 centres. Dr B. Soma Raju, Chief Mentor, Relisys, also spoke.

The facility, built with over Rs 30 crore in a seven-acre plot, has latest equipment and has a separate division for R&D.
