Our Bureau Mumbai, June 29 Tata Consultancy Services has set its capital expenditure for fiscal 2007-08 at Rs 1,400 crore, Mr Ratan Tata, Chairman of the Tata Group, told shareholders at the annual general meeting of the company on Friday. “We will be spending about Rs 800-850 crore in developing infrastructure while the remaining will be utilised for enhancing technology,” Mr S Ramodarai, CEO and Managing Director, TCS, told reporters. Mr Ramodarai also said that the company would cross the milestone of 1 lakh employees before the completion of the current fiscal. TCS currently employs about 89,000 people in about 67 countries. Reacting to shareholders’ concerns of an appreciating rupee eroding the company’s earnings, Mr Tata said that other currencies such as the euro and pound had also depreciated against the rupee in the last fiscal. “While the dollar weakened by eight per cent, the euro and pound were down by six and five per cent respectively,” Mr Tata said.
