Govt releases SPFO lost amount

New Delhi, June 30

The Government has released the entire amount of Rs 92.78 crore lost from Seamen’s Provident Fund Organisation (SPFO), Mumbai, keeping in mind the interests of the organisation’s employees. In May 2002, the amount was lost on account of fraudulent investment. The matter was entrusted to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the then Commissioner of SPFO Mr A.K. Gond, was immediately arrested. After completion of enquiry, a charge sheet has been filed a gainst 15 persons in the Special CBI Court in Mumbai. —
