Free software meet in Kochi

Kochi, July 1

DeepRoot Linux, a free software business headquartered in Bangalore, has launched the first edition of ‘Gathering Roots,’ a conference on free/open source software solutions, in Kochi. The major motive behind the conference series is to increase awareness about free/open source software and solutions in all parts of the country as well as to highlight the importance of free software and the impact that it can have all on all IT usage, a release said. “Tho ugh most of us have heard about free and open source software, not many of us are able to use free software,” said Mr Abhas Abhinav of DeepRoot Linux. Free software ensures that rights as software users are protected and that one retains complete freedom and control over IT investments. The conference was attended by more than 75 people from corporate and software companies, non-profit organisations and Government and public sector institutions. —
