Bangalore, July 2 The public sector Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) was willing to meet the funding requirements of States for meeting their rural electrification targets.

Speaking to newspersons here on Monday, the REC Chairman and Managing Director, Mr Anilkumar Lakhina, said, “States have taken different routes to achieve the targets but funds will not be a constraint.” At least one lakh villages in the country would be electrified over the next two years as a result.

He said States such as Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh have opted for the HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) system for delivering power to the rural areas. However, States such as Karnataka have opted for the Rural Load Management System (RLMS). Implementation of the RLMS he said was estimated to cost Rs 3,000 crore. He said this cost could be fully recovered over a period of two years.

Mr Lakhina said that REC was satisfied at the funds offtake by Karnataka.
