New Delhi, July 4 Eicher Motors Ltd, a leading manufacturer of commercial vehicles, motorcycles and components, is looking at launching a 16-tonne truck, a new passenger bus and a four-axle truck during the current financial year. “The idea is to have a complete range of product portfolio from the 5-tonne to 40-tonne vehicle by the end of the financial year,” Mr A. Ramasubramanian, Chief Executive Officer, Eicher Motors Commercial Vehicles, told Busine ss Line. Currently, the company is pilot testing its four-axle truck and 4X2 16-tonne truck, which is powered with a four-cylinder engine, in Vijayawada. “The company is also looking at introducing a 40-tonne tractor trailer and a 6X4 25-tonne tipper and a 12-metre passenger bus,” Mr Ramasubramanian said. New products
The company is also focusing on aggressively marketing these new products. “We would be launching one vehicle at a time in the market. And once all the launches are completed we will have a presence in up to 40-tonne heavy commercial vehicles segment and then will look at aggressively marketing these products across the country,” Mr Ramasubramanian added. The company on Tuesday also announced that it has recorded a 10.24 per cent growth in the commercial vehicle sale in June this year. The sales for the month touched 2,464 units as against 2,235 units in June 2006. While the year-to-date sales recorded a 14 per cent rise from 5,365 units to 6,109 units. In the domestic market, sales for June grew 12 per cent to 2,271 units as against 2,033 units in June 2006. While the year-to-date sales up to June recorded a 14 per cent increase to 5,711 units from 5,019 units. The company’s exports for June, however, saw a marginal dip of 4 per cent to 193 units from 202 in June last year. But the year-to-date sales grew 15 per cent from 346 units to 398 units. Dip in exports
“The sales have been driven by an increase in the product portfolio in the passenger and heavy commercial vehicle segments. Going forward we would like to see the growth rates above the current year-to-date rate,” Mr Ramasubramanian said. The company, however, is not too concerned about the marginal dip in exports. “Exports basically depend on the orders in hand. Though there was a slight dip this month we expect it to pick up during the year,” he said. The company currently exports its products to the South Asian, West Asian and African markets, and is looking at further consolidation in the existing markets.
