Our Bureau Bangalore, July 4 Honeywell has announced that it joined the Clinton Climate Initiative in a global effort to help cities around the world improve the energy efficiency of buildings and decrease greenhouse gas emissions. Honeywell, a global energy services leader, joined former US President Mr Bill Clinton and mayors of the world’s largest cities in New York City on May 16 to announce the initiative. Buildings are a major global consumer of energy and Honeywell will work with the participating cities, including New Delhi and Mumbai, to identify and implement conservation opportunities in their facilities. “Climate change is a global problem that requires local action,” said Mr Clinton. “The businesses, banks and cities partnering with my foundation are addressing the issue of global warming because they are going to save money, make money, create jobs and have a tremendous collective impact on climate change.” Mr Joe Puishys, President of Honeywell Building Solutions (HBS), said: “We can help cities cut energy costs, create more efficient facilities and reduce their environmental impact.” In the past decade, the company has reduced energy and operating costs for several organisations by more than $3 billion. This was possible through performance contracts, which guarantee the energy savings that result from building retrofits and upgrades, he said. In India, HBS energy performance contracts have saved nearly $10 million across 50 facilities to date, he added. Honeywell also won the national award for the most innovative energy-efficiency services in 2006 from the CII.
