Our Bureau

Mumbai, July 4 Drug-maker USV Ltd’s manufacturing facility at Daman that makes finished dosage forms of medicines has received approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration. This will allow the company to manufacture medicines at the plant and export it to the US.

The company has filed four Abbreviated New Drug Applications in the US through Indicus Pharma LLc, its affiliate company, a USV note said. The Daman facility was earlier approved by the National Agency for Medicines, Finland for supplies to the European Union.

USV focuses on the lifestyle therapeutic segment. The company has a USFDA and TGA approved bulk-drug facility at Chiplun, as well. The Rs 670-crore Mumbai-based USV is the world’s largest manufacturer of Metformin, used in anti-diabetic drugs.

Mr Prashant Tewari, Managing Director of USV Ltd said the company was already exporting bulk drugs to the US and the approval for the formulations or finished dosage forms facility would boost USV’s plans for the US.
