Oilseeds & Edible Oil On the rise
High demand: Groundnuts are being packed at a shop in Thrissur, Kerala. Groundnut oil prices are on the rise, gaining 23 per cent since the beginning of this year, signalling an equal rise in the price of groundnut kernels. Low availability of kernels for crushing, due to high consumption of the nuts as snacks by liquor consumers, too has contributed to the rise in price of groundnut oil. Groundnut acreage has gone down to 2.53 lakh hectares from 3.97 lakh hectares same time last year.
