Our Bureau Chennai, July 5 Flextronics and Anna University signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) to establish a Tech@Campus programme at the university campus. Both will prepare technological curriculum to prepare students for careers in the electronics manufacturing industry, according to Mr Richard Wong, Vice-President, Human Resources, Asia, Flextronics. The $19 billion Singapore-based electronics manufacturing service provider will invest Rs 5 crore in setting up a ‘Surface Mount Technology’ lab at Anna University to train students in SMT. The SMT is a method used to construct electronic circuits in which components are mounted directly onto the surface of printed circuit boards. The university was the first to have such a lab, he told newspersons. Prof Dr D. Viswanathan, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University, said it was a three year agreement and the university would offers courses on electronics and manufacturing based on the curriculum to be jointly worked out. There will be a separate discipline in EMS and the courses will start from next academic year. The EMS discipline would include SMT and supply chain management for EMS.
