The company plans to create e-support for routine HR functions. It is also planning a collaborative index to determine employee’s variable pay.
Archana Venkat Chennai, July 6 Satyam Computer Services Ltd has embarked on an automation plan that aims to “virtualise” most of its existing HR functions, according to Mr Hari T., Head, Human Resources, Satyam Computer Services Ltd. “We want the HR team to focus on people-related issues and not spend time on administrative jobs like sending appointment letters or employee appraisals,” he told Business Line on the sidelines of a HR summit organised b y Nasscom. The HR team must only enable these functions by creating the right policies and frameworks for other departments to work on, he said. Creating e-support
Satyam has plans to create e-support for routine HR functions, replacing ‘touch and feel’ management with ‘dash board management’. These systems would be equipped to provide real time online feedback every month on aspects such as employee performance and productivity. Consequently, the company does not plan to add any more to the 260-odd HR employees on its rolls. The job of ‘virtualising’ routine HR functions, Mr Hari said, is to create a better organisation and not a response to cost pressures because of factors such as rupee appreciation. “We do not want to give fancy designations to employees. We want their job role to be an indicator of their position and growth in the organisation,” he said. Collaborative index
Another aspect of restructuring is the creation of a ‘collaborative index’ to determine an employee’s variable pay. This means employees will be rated on their work as part of a team. A higher score will entitle them to a higher variable pay component of the salary. Mr Hari said it is too early to forecast any financial savings out of this exercise.
