SIDBI unveils services in Alappuzha coir cluster

Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) has launched business development services (BDS) programme in the Alappuzha Coir Floor covering cluster to the team of Cluster Pulse, an NGO working in 66 clusters in nine countries including India at a function here on Friday.

The implementation of the four-year duration project will focus on developing new and innovative models of BDS market support. The objective of the programme is to increase the flow of credit and related support services to SME in Kerala’s coir cluster with business development services serving as a key component, Mr Rakesh Rewari, Deputy Managing Director, SIDBI, told newspersons after the launching ceremony.

The project implementation in Alappuzha Coir Floor covering the cluster will be done in three phases. The first phase will be cluster mapping and business plan development, the second phase will be project implementation and the third deals with learning and close out.

Specifically, the implementation of Alappuzha Coir Floor covering cluster will entail building the capacity of BDS providers to effectively cater to the needs of SMEs; support networking and collaboration among BDS providers within India and outside; facilitate business linkages between SME and larger corporations; developing high quality practical entrepreneurship and management training for both start up and more established enterprises; improve access and adoption of new technologies among SMEs, facilitating information dissemination, technology transfer and so on.
