Bengal trade delegation leaving for Vietnam

A 17-member trade delegation
comprising members of
Bengal National Chamber of
Commerce and Industry
(BNCCI), lead by the Chamber
President, Ms Shanta
Ghosh is leaving for Vietnam
on Saturday to explore business
opportunities. Among
the key sectors represented in
the delegation, on a four-day
visit (two days in Hanoi and
two in Ho Chi Minh City) are
seafood (marine products),
spices and textiles. The focus
is expected to be on fisheries
and agriculture.
The delegation, with full
support from the West Bengal
Government, which had recently
hosted the Vietnamese
Prime Minister, Mr Nguyen
Tan Dung, in Kolkata, will also
be talking to industry leaders
in Vietnam for technological
support for crab culture in the
State, which has the necessary
infrastructure for the
purpose.
According to State Government
sources, there could be a
joint venture with a Vietnamese
company for technology,
with buyback arrangements.
The Vietnamese PM was in
India with a large delegation
comprising 15 ministers, six
provincial leaders, 40 officials
and 80 businessmen.
Talks are also scheduled
with the Vietnam Chamber of
Commerce in Hanoi for exchange
of trade data to facilitate
more mutual business
contacts. India and Vietnam
have targeted doubling of
two-way trade to $2 billion by 2010.
