Call for policy to promote transport

Thiruvananthapuram, July 8 A meeting of the Transport Ministers of southern States, Maharashtra and Goa has called upon the Centre to formulate a national transport policy, which lays emphasis on the development of public transport infrastructure in the country.

The two-day meeting held in Thiruvananthapuram also felt that the policy should look at reducing the density of private vehicles on the roads.

The Kerala Transport Minister, Mr Mathew T. Thomas, said that the Standing Committee of Transport Ministers, Transport Secretaries and Transport Commissioners was renamed as South India Transport Council
