Coast Guard rescues crew

Mangalore, July 8The Indian Coast Guard personnel rescued eight crew members of an oil tanker that was caught in the rough sea off Mangalore coast on Saturday.

A press release by the Coast Guard said here that eight crew members of the ‘Motor Tanker Abdul Kalam Azad’, were caught up in the rough sea. The vessel was on voyage to Mangalore from Mumbai and was at seven nautical miles away from the port.

The ship relayed a distress message, which was picked up by Coast Guard Headquarters (Karnataka). The Coast Guard ship Kasturba Gandhi, based in Mangalore, was directed to sail for the rescue operation. The ship successfully saved the crew members.
